At this time only one appraisal of the highway oriented businesses has been
completed. The appraiser called and stated that a court appearance has put
him behind schedule. I'm sending the summary page of that appraisal under
a different cover.
I have visited with one of the property owners, Al Monk. He wishes to
start negotiations on the sale of his property soon. Mr. Monk was advised
that Lee Smith would be working with him on relocation and that land
purchases and relocations are separate issues.
I also discussed with Mr. Monk the possibility of several of the auto
oriented businesses locating in the same area of the City. The property
owner told me he thought that was a good idea and volunteered to work with
some of the other auto businesses. He will contact me the week of July 20
for further discussion of the "car care center" concept. I'll be looking
for a "new" proposal, not the Mexican motif earlier suggested.
There is considerable fill on the properties but, as far as I know, no fuel
tanks. With construction of the Armory, much of the site will be used for
ponding and a good amount of earth work will be completed. If we are going
to err, it should be on the side of caution. In that regard, I will have
quotes on a phase I environmental audit for the first meeting in August.
