BECHTO DIR. P & R� _tIA #? ATTACHMENTS: Am/ --Y. 0/NONE lxn The National Parks & Recreation Association is concfucting(/a program of training for parks and recreational professionals. The training institute will be held Sunday through Tuesday on the dates of May 3rd through May 5th. A general summary of the program: The National Recreation and Parks Association's Midwest Professional Training Institute is held annually in a different City within the six state region. The purpose of the institute is to provide professionals with an annual update on the latest techniques and methodology being used in the profession. The 1992 Institute will be hosted by the Grand Forks District. The Midwest Region in addition to North Dakota includes the states of Colorado, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Wyoming. Three CEU tracks are offered:,Administration/Management;, Recreation Service; and Environmental/Park Management. Delegates to the Institute will be able to earn part of the Continuing Education Units needed for recertification. .5 C.E.U.s will be awarded on both Monday and Tuesday or a total of 1.1 C.E.U.s for those attending both days. This training institute is a great opportunity for learning to get together with other professionals to discuss issues pertaining to our field of work. This item has been budgeted for in the 1992 budget under item 101 - 45100 -01 - 437.1. The program will also be an opportunity to obtain continuing education credits that I need to catch up on to maintain my professional certification in Parks and recreation. The estimated cost to attend the program is $ 500.00 - 600.00. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Authorize the Parks & Recreation Director, Dave Bechtold, to attend the Midwest Training Institute in Grand Forks with all costs associated with this program (not to exceed $ 600.00) to come from account # 101 - 45100 - 01 - 437.1 COUNCIL ACTION:
