AGENDA ITEK: SURPLUS EQUIPMENT - AGENDA SECTION: UNDERBODY PLOW CONSENT PREPARED BY: STEPHAN JILK, CITY ADMINISTRATOR AGENDA N1TEM # 6L ATTACMUMS : MEMO AP VED Y : The Public Works Department has a underbody plow which was specifically built for the City., Its usefulness is no longer apparent and to continue to utilize it would require additional modifications to a truck. We recommend I its disposal and we have a pending offer from. another city for it. RECOMMENDED ACTION Motion to declare the 1987 underbody snowplow surplus equipment and authorize its sale. COUNCIL ACTION: TO: Ron Wasmund, Public Works Director FROM: Mike Widstrom, Public Works Supervisor DATE: March 11, 1992 RE: Underbody Snowplow In 1987, the City purchased an underbody snowplow that was going to be used for scraping ice and snow off of City streets. This plow was specially built for our Ford Tandem which required modifications for it to fit. This plow, after it was installed, was used only one season because it was determined that it took to many passes to clean off the streets, and therefore too time consuming to be effective. Now that the City has traded the Tandem that this plow was built for, we do not want to go to the expense of making modifications to the plow frame of the new truck (Ford 9000). City staff is recommending that this piece of equipment be considered surplus equipment and sold. At one point we were going to let the plow go with the truck, but staff thought that maybe we could trade the plow for something better. However, after checking with dealers, no one would give the City anything for it. Staff did find out though, through one of these dealers, that Carver County Highway Department needs to replace a broken moldboard on one of their trucks and has offered us a $1,000 for it. Staff feels we should not pass on this offer because the only other option for this piece of equipment is scrap.
