On Monday we will distribute the proposed 1993 Port Authority operating
budget. Steve and I will provide a brief overview of the draft budget on
Monday when presented. We are getting it to you for review prior to the
Port Authority work session of November 17. At that time Jeff May, the
city's Finance Director, will be available to explain things like format
and creation of fund accounts.
You will see that the work program preceding the budget section is divided
into three parts. The first part will deal with finishing projects
inherited by the Port Authority and the second deals with administrative
matters. These are all pretty much givens.
The third section will be concerned with the Port Authority's "new
initiatives." Here are the projects we've recently started -- the first
real Port Authority accomplishments. These include:
• CMC housing east of the downtown.
• Senior housing in the downtown.
• Business park south of C.R. 42.
You may want to think about priorities for these. Is one more important
than others? Actually, they are all important and we should be pleased
with them. The positive effects of each are far reaching.
A proposed calendar for budget approval will be presented near the
beginning of the work program. We may need an extra work session to
consider the budget so that we can complete its approval on December 8 so
that it is complete when the City Council holds their public hearing on the
general fund budget on December 10.
