You will also find as follows a schedule of the hiring process for this position: December 3 Consideration for approval by Council December 8 & 15 Advertisement of Ad in "Minneapolis Tribune" (Ad will also be placed in League of Cities "Bulletin") December 20 Deadline for receiving applications December 26 -December 31 Interview of Candidates January 7 Council appointment This is a very stringent time schedule and hopefully we will be able to interview candidates between the period of December 26-31. Even with approval of hiring on January 7, the earliest this person would most likely be able to start would be the last week in January, 1992. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. RECOMMENDED ACTION: MOTION TO APPROVE THE ASSISTANT PLANNER JOB DESCRIPTION AND AUTHORIZE ADVERTISEMENT FOR THIS POSITION COUNCIL ACTION: CITY OF ROSEMOUNT Position Title Department Accountable To POSITIONRESPONSIBILITY WRITE-UP Date: Assistant Planner Planning Department Director of Planning Primary Objective of Position This is a responsible, professional position within the Planning Department. The Assistant Planner must be capable of independent work with minimal supervision. Duties include the preparation of detailed staff reports, oral presentations, preparation of plan elements and assist with coordination of the City's planning programs and special projects. Performs other duties as assigned. Major Areas of Accountability 1. Organization/Procedures -- Meets with citizens, boards and commissions, developers and staff for matters related to planning and development. --Prepares detailed staff reports for the Planning Commission and City Council on development proposals as assigned. -- Assists with management of Planning Commission agendas, meeting material packets and packet distribution. -- Undertakes planning studies and other projects at the .direction of the Director of Planning. -- Assists with zoning and subdivision ordinance enforcement. -- Assists with updating of land use plans and regulations. -- Maintains records and information and suggests improvements in the department. -- Provides information and assistance to residents and developers on planning issues and regulations. -- Attends all Planning Commission Meetings and attends other meetings as required. -- Performs other tasks and duties assigned by the Director of Planning. Must be capable of effectively communicating with other departments, citizens, boards and commissions and developers. 3 • Minimum Re i*- ments: A bachelors degree in planning or related field and at least one year of responsible, relevant experience or a masters degree in Planning or related field and experience desirable. -- A demonstrated ability to apply planning and zoning principles. The ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written s. forms. -- The ability to analyze complex issues and problems. -- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision. A basic understanding of management techniques and leadership ershi P -- The ability to maintain professional and courteous attitudes representing the City or department. when ASSISTANT PLANNER The City of Rosemount (pop.'9000), located in the Twin Cities area, is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Planner. Rosemount is a rapidly developing suburb in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metropolitan area. Position is responsible for planning, development review, zoning administration and special projects. Position will assist the Director of Planning with the overall functions of the planning department. Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in planning or related field and at least one year of responsible, relevant experience or a Master's degree in planning or related field and relevant experience preferred. Starting salary range is $27,500 to $30,500 and excellent benefits. All applicants must submit a city application.
