Mayor Napper and I completed those interviews for the position of Assistant' City Administratoron Friday, April 5th. We are pleased, following those interviews, to bring a recommendation to you for the hiring of Susan VaderHeyden to this position to begin May 6, 1991, at a starting salary of $37,000 per year and other benefits as outlined in the attached memo. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to accept the recommendation to hire; Susan VanderHeyden as the new Rosemount Assistant City Administrator as outlined in the memo from City Administrator Stephan Jilk dated April 10, 1991. Susan comes to us from the City of St. Anthony, acting as Assistant City Manager for St. Anthony from 1988 until now. Prior to this Susan spent six months as Acting City Manager for St. Anthony, a year as administrative intern for Eagan and a short internship for the Metropolitan Council. Susan has extensive experience in economic development, tax increment work, budget preparation and project management. Susan holds a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration and is completing a Masters Degree in Business at St. Thomas College. I have had an opportunity to visit with several of Susan's references and was most pleased with those findings. We are pleased to recommend the hiring of Susan VanderHeyden as the new Assistant City Administrator at a starting salary of $37,000 plus all benefits provided to other non-union employees. This starting salary is approximately at Mid -A in the range. Susan will begin employment on May 6, 1991, and than will be placed on a six month probation until November 5, 1991, at which time she would, upon the successful completion of this probation, be taken off probation and granted a $1000 increase to $38,000. Upon a successful performance evaluation at six months the probationary period would conclude and an increase to $38,000 annually would be granted. 5 I would receive any annual salary adjustment granted on January 1, 1992. 6. On November 6, 1992, one year after the probationary period ends, I would receive a second performance evaluation and upon successful completion I would be moved to the mid -point of the salary range. 7. All other benefits as outlined in the resolution provided to me by the City commencing on May 6, 1991. 8. Successful completion of a physical examination is required.
