EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR; ACTION
CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: April 16, 1991
This item is a request to purchase 25 self-contained breathing apparatus
units and 25 extra air bottles. This item is in the 1991 CIP. The members
of the Rosemount Fire Department have been extensively researching and',
testing various units over the past 2 years. The bids, which are attached,
represent 3 different suppliers and 4 different models that are available.
The membership feels that the units that could best serve our purposes
would be those that could supplied by the Eddy Brothers Company at a cost
of $41,375.00. They are interested in accepting a trade-in of 4 of our
units which meet industry standards and will credit us with $1,200.00
bringing the cost down to $40,175.00. We do have 2 additional units which
they would be interested in, which could bring our cost down below that
which was anticipated ($40,000) but the Public Works Department has need of
those.

Coming from the CIP, Account #202-49002-01-580, would be $40,000.00 of the
required $41,175.00 . The additional $175.00, which we are incurring
because we are donating 2 units to the Public Works Department, will come
out of our operating budget, Account #101-42210-01-580.
Our old equipment is no longer appropriate for fire fighting activities.
The city may, however', realize some income from the sale of the old self-
contained breathing apparatus as it does have some value to industry.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Motion by City Council to allow the fire department to spend $40,175.00
to purchase 25 self-contained breathing units and 25 additional air
bottles.
