Approve Fire Department Resignation - Joe WalshCITY OF ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DAVE: May 7, 1991 AGENDA ITEM: AGENDA SECTION: Fire Fighter-Resignation/Retirement New Business PREPARED BY: Scott Aker, AGENDA N1.y 1:j j 1 Fire Chief Y ATTACHMENTS: APP VED BY: Letter of Resignation/Retirement Joe Walsh, a 20 -year member of the Rosemount Fite Department, has submitted his resignation effective May 11, 1991. That date marks Joe's 20th anniversary as a member of the fire department. With 20 years of active service on the fire department, Joe is eligible for full retirement benefits from the Relief Association and placement on the Roll of Honor. At a regular monthly meeting of the Rosemount Fire Department held on April 23, 1991 the membership accepted Joe's resignation with an effective date of May 11, 1991. We look to the city council to ratify this action. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion by the city council to ratify the fire department's action and accept Joe Walsh's resignation from the department effective May 11, 1991. COUNCIL ACTION: APRIL 9, 1991 ROSEMOUNT CITY COUNCIL SCOTT AKER, FIRE CHIEF MEMBERS OF FIRE DEPARTMENT It is with mixed emotions that I submit this letter as notification of my desire to retire from the Rosemount Fire Department. Being a member of the department is no longer an enjoyment to me, so I find that I should retire on May 11, 1991, my 20th anniversary as a member. The volunteer fire department that I joined in 1971 no longer exist, as I see it. A volunteer should give of his time freely, not be required to do so as the department bylaws indicate with it's percentages. With all of the regulations that are in place and with those that will be coming in the future, being a member of the department has become a part-time job. I joined as a volunteer, not as a employee, which takes the enjoyment out of being a member. Being a member has been good for me. It has allowed me to receive experiences that most people do not get a chance to have. Even in retirement I will be willing to help the City and the Department whenever I am called upon to do so. Thanks to all for the past 20 years of good, bad and always fascinating tim s. Jose h
