"Please find attached a memo outlining a brief history and reasons for the requested increase, along with the salary proposal. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion by City Council to approve the salary increases as indicated in column "C" of the proposal and that these increases would be implemented in 1992. COUNCIL ACTION: TO: FROM: DATE: RE: ROSEMOUNT VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT ROSEMOUNT, MINNESOTA 55068 Mayor Napper Council Members Klassen, Oxborough, Willcox, Wippermann Scott Aker, Fire Chief May 7, 1991 Fire Department Salary Increases In April of 1990, after having surveyed surrounding departments in Dakota County, the council was approached with a salary increase proposal. Information that the fire department collected indicated that we were behind in the amounts that we were paying and in order to bring them up to comparable amounts for 1991, we would need to raise salaries to the figures that are indicated in column "B" of the attachment. Column "B" was the amounts that were proposed to the council in April of 1990. The city council, at that time, did not dispute the amounts that were presented. Nor did.they feel that the fire department should not be making those amounts or even more. The council's concern at that time was that it be done in increments, a step at a time. For that reason, the council approved for 1991 the salaries that are indicated in column "A" of the attachment and indicated they would be receptive to making another incremental -jump to column "B" in 1992. The fire department has again surveyed surrounding departments. Information indicates that those figures which are indicated in column "B" are comparable to 'current salaries being paid to other departments for 1991. There was only one department that has settled on an amount for 1992, all the rest are still in the planning process. The Rosemount Fire Department membership realizes that other departments may propose increases that would again put us behind; nevertheless, we are submitting a proposal that is in line with 1991 salaries for 1992. Our current proposal which is indicated by column "C" has been adjusted slightly. The position of Chief and Assistant Chief have amounts proposed which are slightly less than were originally proposed, with the increases going to our training coordinator, captains, lieutenants and fire prevention coordinator. It is felt that the increased responsibilities which these 4 positions have been assuming, deserve some kind of monetary recognition. This will also ultimately decrease some of the responsibilities of the Chief's and Assistant Chief's positions. The figures which are indicated in and have been We would look "C" and would overall budget sl approved by the fire to the city council then work with those for 1991. column "C" are the proposals for 1992 department membership on March 26, 1991. to approve the amounts listed in column amounts as we put together our proposed A 1991 1992 Tentative 1992 Proposal Chief 6,000 7,500 7,200 Asst.
