Item #1 - Hurst Tool Chain This item is an addition to our hurst tool system. At the present time we have a 6 foot piece of chain which is used in extrication activities. We have found that it is necessary when working on older vehicles, pickup trucks and vans to have a- longer piece of chain. Item #2 - New Vehicle Set-up Our new pickup truck, which will be used primarily by the Assistant Fire Chief or his designee in responding to the scene, needs to be set-up with switches, lights and installation of emergency equipment. This expenditure was anticipated and was part of the CIP for 1991. Once this original equipment is set- up, all removal and installation into future vehicles is done by fire department personnel as will be the case in our other new vehicle, the grass fire vehicle, which will be put into service allowing us to rotate our older vehicle to the Public Works Department. Item #3 - Gate Valve and Mounting Bracket This item was an anticipated addition in 1991 to our hose truck. It will make it possible to attach several hoses to one fire hydrant allowing us the availability of more water on the fire scene. Item #4 - Portable Cellular Telephone At the present time we have a fixed cellular telephone in our rescue truck and a transportable cellular phone in one of our officer response vehicles. This would be a portable cellular telephone which would be kept in our other officer response vehicle. Having one of each type available to us on Page 2 the fire scene should provide us almost every possible situation. indication of which accessories the telephone itself. with the flexibility needed in Attached is a bid sheet and an would be ordered in addition to Item #5 - Self Contained Breathing Apparatus At the time we made our initial purchase of self contained breathing apparatus, due to increases in price, we were unable to order all the equipment that was necessary. For that reason, 2 complete units, 2 additional spare bottles and 4 carrying cases were put on hold. At that time bids indicated that we could receive as income approximately $600 - $800. We felt that we could do better in auctioning off our equipment. With the completion of that auction, we were correct in that'we now have received $3,300 for our old equipment as it was sold to industry where they are still allowed to use equipment of that type and vintage. This item would now be using that $3,300 from the auction along with additional monies from donations to purchase the items which were placed on hold. Item #6 — Bunker Pans (2 pair) As we have recently taken on 4 additional new members and attempted to outfit them with the gear that we have available from persons who have retired, we have found it necessary to order 2 additional new pair of bunker pants for them. The other 2 new persons were able to utilize equipment that we:.had on hand. Item #7 - Aerial Truck Hydraulic Inspection This item is a request to spend approximately $400 to have all cabinets and skirting removed from the aerial truck, the entire truck pressure washed and cleaned and a total evaluation of our hydraulic system completed. At the present time this vehicle does have leaks in its hydraulic system which have been determined to be above and beyond the capabilities of our city mechanic. We don't know for sure at the present time to what extent these leaks could cause a mechanical or safety problem. This $400.00 expenditure would merely be a evaluation of the problem. Once all areas of concern have been identified along with estimated costs to repair, a further look will be needed to determine just what would need to be repaired in order to keep this vehicle in service until its anticipated replacement. This vehicle is the $500,000 - $600,000 item in the CIP which has been considered as a possibility for funding through equipment certificates, a referendum, or other possibilities. Page 3 I would also mention at this time, for your information, that due to other commitments I will not be available for attendance at the city council meeting.
