Rosemount has been awarded Star City status. Along with the designation
comes the right to post "Star City" signs on each road approaching or
passing inside Rosemount city limits.
In discussing this matter staff suggested the following:
A. Locations for posting the "Star City" signs (please see attached
location map):
- one sign on South Robert Trail in northern Rosemount
- one sign on South Robert Trail in southern Rosemount
- one sign on County Road 42 in western Rosemount
- one sign on Highway 55 in eastern Rosemount
- one sign on Highway 52 in northeast Rosemount
- one sign on Highway 52 in southeast Rosemount
B. The size recommended for each sign is 80" x 18" (please see attached
sign example) .
C. The cost for each sign is $142.00 installed, thus making the total
$852.00. The State of Minnesota does allow cities to install the "Star
City" signs on their own, however due to the fact that MnDOT has
specialized trucks and equipment for installing such signs and for
reasons of liability (especially on the state highways) staff strongly
recommends that this task be left to MnDOT people.
Staff would appreciate any comments and input which Council has to offer.
Because the permitting / ordering process for these signs will take some
time, it is important to take care of these details as soon as possible if
we wish to have the signs up by spring. Therefore, in the event that
Council is in agreement with the above information, staff respectfully
requests approval of the above.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Motion approving the purchase and installation of six 80" x 18"
Rosemount "Star City" signs to be located as indicated by staff and
further directing staff to obtain the necessary sign permits.
COUNCIL ACTION:
Approved.
