I am writing to request financial assistance from the City of Rosemount for the Rosemount Area Senior
Center. The City Council has been generous in the past by alloting $6,000.00 to be paid to ISD 196 to show
support of senior services and programs. Inis year, even more so than in the past, financial contributions are
needed. As you know the levy referendum failed and every department is "tightening their belts."
I am pleased with the supportive relationships that exists between city employees and myself. Your staff
members are always so nice! It's a pleasure to co-sponsor trips with park and recreation. They are always on
top of my Elder -News deadlines too!
Programs in which the senior citizens become involved in the community in this past year were:
• The center members coordinated the citywide sale of Leprechaun Day'sbuttons.
• The seniors staffed the ice cream concessions at major Leprechaun events. Although we benefited from
the profit, $160.00 was donated back to the Community ($100.00, Christmas Lights; $30.00,
Community Garden and $30.00, Last Hope).
• Over 20 retirees volunteered at the Halloween Party. They look forward to this event and are already
talking about next year.
• Several members joined the Community Garden Club. The club has received space in Elder -news to
promote membership. Also, I am glad to see that the plaza management approved allowing the club to
meet at the center the fourth Monday of each month.
• Members faithfully save pop cans to donate to the recycling site for the Christmas Lights. One elderly
man drives to Erickson and Schwartz's parks each day to gather cans. He told me, "Itis the least that I
can do, I have the time and it's for a good cause."
• Our first annual "Community Appreciation Breakfast" was well attended. Our center was proud to host
this to say "thank you" to the city, businesses, schools, civic groups and churches for their support. We
appreciate you.
These are just a few examples of how the senior citizens are involved in Rosemount life this past year. We are
proud to be a part of a city that treats its elderly residents with concern and respect. Thank you.
Sincerely,
LJanis M. Stoven.
