RE: Designated Smoking Area Within Fire Station
For quite some time, there has been discussion as to the need for
a designated smoking area within the fire station. As long ago
as October of 1988 it was official business at a regular monthly
meeting of the fire department. It has come up for discussion
periodically since that time at various meetings . Unofficially,
since that time it has been discussed at length among the members
of the fire department.
At the annual monthly meeting of the Rosemount Fire Department
held on January 23, 1990, it was suggested that we officially
designate a smoking area within the fire station. In talking
with Ron Wasmund prior to the meeting, he suggested that that
would be the first step of the process. The membership
unanimously voted to designate the apparatus bay as the smoking
section of the fire station. In that way, fire fighters working
to get equipment back into service after a call could continue to
work if they desired to sr�oke. Also, that area of the fire
station has a separate ventilation system from the rest of the
fire station.
Ron also indicated that the next step in the process would be to
have the city council officially designate that area as a smoking
area in the fire station. We would ask at this time that this
item be placed on a future agenda for designation of a smoking
area at the fire station by the city council.
