RE: Flower Garden
Deanna Simpson, one of the members of the Parks & Recreation Committee,
has been working for a couple of years to generate interest within the
community for a flower garden. A site location and the process o
planting and maintaining the garden were considered.
Her efforts this past summer, during 1989, were to place flowers and
. plants in the concrete planters located in the highway 3 and 14Sth
street development ara. Although we did go through another summer of
drought the plants did grow and did provide some color and additional
"life" to the business areas where the planters were located.
Deanna has laid out plans for a flower garden in an area west of the
entrance to the City Hall parking lot. The planned area also includes
the section of land located adjacent to Corcoran Hardware and the
parking lot of the Dakota Building. •
Input and support were given to the design of this garden from members
of city staff, members of the Parks & Recreation Committee, varioua
Rosemount businesses, and, citizens at large. Businesses and citizens
also expressed an interest in donating flower bulbs and materials to
assist in making this .pro'ect 'a reality. Sr. citizens are being
encouraged to participate in this proect also.
An attached concept drawing indicates the location of the garden in the
City Hall area. This concept drawing is ust that, "a concept drawing".
Rick Cook has placed this pro3ect into his work load for the near
future. His efforts will be to provide water to the site and to assist
in the grading and layout of the site. Mark Joosten and Mike Wozniak
are also involved by supplying input to identifying types of plants to
be used, the locations of the ,plants, etc. .
Official support was given to this project by the Parks & Recreation
Committee at their meeting of March 19, 1990.
Council action requested is to suthorize the flower garden to be
located in the area nest to City Hall and to be so designed as to
include the immediate City Hall site in its concept plans".
