I am recommending that Council hire Mr. Douglas St ffer and Mr. John
Fremming to fill the existing Maintenance Level T position that was
left vacant upon Mr. Robert Barfknechts' promotion to Leve1 II, and to
fill the newly created Maintenance I position in the 1990 budget. We
would recommend beginning both at the Step A salary level for
Maintenance I position and upon their successful completion of the 6
month probationary period, recommend that they step up to the Step B
level. After that advancement through Step C and D would be on an
annual basis.
We had originally lined up 8 candidates to interview, hawever two '
candidates dropped out for personal 'reasons. Mr. Stauffer and Mr.
Fremming are the top two candidates of the remaining six that we
interviewed and tested on September 19th and 20th. The candidates
were evaluated on an oral interview and upon -a basic equipment
operation test and a basic maintenance knowZedge test. The interview
committee consisted of Mike Widstrom, Steve Strese and myself. Dean
Sandstrom assisted with the equipment operation testing. After all
was done the applicants were all rated with Mr. Fremming and Mr.
Stauffer coming out on top.
Mr. Stauffer has been working with us part-time for the past month and
has some past experience working with small equipment. Mr. Fremming
has worked with municipalities in the Twin Cities area before and is
currently living in Colorado. He's loaking forward to return to the
Twin City area. If Council approves our recommendations Mr. Stauffer
will be able to start immediately and Mr. Fremming wi11 be able to
start October 9th. I will have Mr. Stauffer and Mr. Fremming at the
October 16, 1990 meeting for their introductions if Council approves
this recommendation.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the hiring of Mr. Douglas Stauffer
and Mr. John Fremming as Maintenanae Level I employees starting at the
Step A salary Ievel.
COUNCIL ACTION:
APProved.
