The EDA and City Council have had discussions surrounds g the
future of the businesses in the area of the armory site, north of
the downtown. Original discussions centered on the potential
relocation of the "west side" businesses, due to the increased
magnitude of the armory site development. Recent discussions
have centered on the potential buyout of the Sunrise Builder
Supply property, as initiated by the owner, Mike McDonough.
Staff have been directed to research options regarding a range of
uses that may be possible and funding options if the City/EDA
were involved. One additional issue is the timing of the Master
Parks Plan, which may have a bearing on the use potential of this
area.
I have not had the time to put in writing the number of concepts,
issues and options that need to be evaluated. We have put this
item on the agenda to keep the discussions rolling. By Tuesday's
meeting, I hope to summarize some of the pros and cons of the
land use concepts, financing options and timing issues.
