SUBJ: PICK-UP QUOTES
The 1990 CIP includes $14,000 budgeted for the replacement of the
` 1984 LTD. This vehicle is used primarily by the community
development department; although, it is available to and frequently :
used by other departments. The LTD has 115,000 miles on it, :
currently, and came #rom the police department in 1987. We`recommend
keeping the LTD in the fleet, hecause its trade-in value is marginal
and its condition is reasonable for general use.
The other community development vehicles include an '89 Chevy 4 X 4
and an '87 Temp 4WD, which are the building inspection vehicles. We
also have an '82 Chevette, `which: is 'scheduled for sale at the City
auction this spring. In discussions with the city mechanic and
department personnel , we have reached' consensus that the Tempo should
be removed from inspections and put in general use. The Tempo has
`been a popular out-of-town vehicle, particularly in bad weather: It
' is well :suited for local and out-of-town use, and its life expectancy
would be enhanced, if removed from ''field duty.°
On the basis of the information above; I am requesting authorization '
to obtain quotes� on a new �-ton 4 X 4-pick-up. This vehicle would be
used primarily for inspections, freeing up the Tempo for general
administrative use. We will request quotes from all of the local
dealers, as well as the Hennepin County bid information.
