SIIBJ: CONSIDERATION OF NEW CITY LOGO
The Rosemount Star City Marketing Sub-Committee, in their efforts
to come up with a logo for the Rosemount Star City marketing
materials, held a citywide contest for a suitable Star City logo
and slogan in December of 1989. The winning logo and slogan as
approved by both the Star City Committee and the Rosemount City
Council were: the traditional Irish shamrock with a single bright
pink rose represented in the heart of the shamrock as designed by
Peter Parks, a student from Rosemount High School; and
"Everything's Coming Up Rosemount! " as submitted by Mr. Jim
Klassen.
A sketch of the logo was presented to a design firm working in
conjunction with the Star City Committee on behalf of USPCI, Inc.
The colors for the logo, as well as the design for the brochure and
pocket folder for the Rosemount Star City Program, were prepared
by the design company. After their completion, samples of how the
logo and slogan appeared on both the Star City brochure and pocket
folder were presented to the City Council. Recommended revisions
were made and final City Council approval took place earlier this
year.
The Rosemount Star City Marketing Sub-Committee is currently
looking into how costly it would be to order lapel pins with the
new logo. As ordering said pins with the current City of Rosemount
logo has been discussed by various committees on and off for some
time, this may be a good opportunity to incorporate the Star City
lago as the "City of Rosemount Logo" so the pins can promote the
city of Rosemount as a whole, not just the Rosemount Star City
Program.
Staff has discussed the possibility of this logo being used not
only as the Rosemount Star City logo, but also as the "Rosemount
City Logo" in general. Thus, the logo would appear on any items
that currently have the Rosemount shamrock logo. It seems much
more logical to determine whether or not .we wish to incorporate
this logo on items representing Rosemount now, rather than waiting
until we are into our next bulk supply of stationary and the lapel
pins have been ordered. If approved, the replacement process would
occur gradually as items reflecting the new logo and slogan would
only be ordered when the supplies of items with the current
Rosemount shamrock logo run out (Rosemount flags, City of Rosemount
stationary and envelopes, etc. ) .
As the Rosemount Star City logo and slogan have been purposely
designed in a "generic" manner so as to allow them to be used for
purposes other than Rosemount Star City promotion; they have met
with favorable response throughout the community; and by
incorporating one logo and slogan for Rosemount, the City Council
will allow for a comprehensive marketing program for the City of
Rosemount as a whole; my recommendation is for City Council
approval of both the logo and slogan.
MOTION: The Rosemount City Council hereby adopts the logo and
slogan designed for the Rosemount Star City Praqram as the new
official Rosemount City Lago and Slagan and directs staff to
obtain a copyriqht on same.
