This item consist of asking Council to authorize speed study along
Shannon Parkway from 137th Street to .5 mi south of County Road 38 .
The speed study is necessary in order to set an enforceable speed
limit for this section of Shannon Parkway. State law only allows the
Commissioner of Transportation, through a MnDOT sped study, to
designate any speed limits in undeveloped areas such as is adjacent to
this segment of Shannon Parkway,
MnDOT has performed speed studies for previously completed segments of _ _
- Shannori Parkway. The results of those studies set the speed limit at
40 m.p.h.
Once MnDOT establishes a speed limit, then we can come back and do a
study to consider a speed zone for the segment of Shannon Parkway in
front of the new elementary school.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Adopt a Resolution Requesting the
Commissioner of Transportation to Conduct a Speed Study for Shannon
Parkway from 137th Street to County Road 38 .

A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE COMMISSIONER OF TRANSPORTATION
TO CONDUCT A SPEED STIIDY FOR SHANNON PARRWAY
FROM 137TH STREET TO COIINTY ROAD 38
RHEREAS, State law authorizes only the Commissioner of Transportation
to set speed limits along public streets and highways that don't fall
under the "Urban District" classification as defined in M.S.L. 169. 01,
Subdivision 59; and
WHEREAS, Shannon Parkway is such as street that the City recently built
as a future ADT of 9, 000 to accommodate traffic resulting from the
City�s growth; and
WIiEREAS, the City of Rosemount is concerned for safety of its residents
travelling these streets.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Rosemount, Minnesota:
- The Commissioner of Transportation authorize a speed study on Shannon
Parkway from 137th Street to County Road 38 .
ADOPTED this 16th day of October, 1990.
