I attended meetings throughout the summer with -other representatives from the Cities of Apple Valley and Eagan, Parents Communication Network and ISD 19b school counselors and teachers from various schools in the district. During the week of October 22-28, schools will be providing drug education programs to their students. It is also my understanding red ribbons will be distributed to the students to be worn at some point during the campaign : week._ _ -- __ _ _ Ribbons and brochures will be delivered to filling stations in Rosemount, Apple Valley and Eagan. These ribbons and brochures will be available to customers who may tie the ribbons on their car antennas. Ribbons will also be placed on city vehicles and handed out to city employees to place on their personal vehicles. This is the second year for this nation-wide campaign, and the second year the city has been involved in showing their support through adoption of a proclamation and displaying and wearing red ribbons during the campaign weeks. MINNESOTA 55068 G�I'L vb 612-423-4411 A P R O C L A M A T I O N RED RIBBON CAMPAIGN OCTOBER 22 - 28, 1990 WHEREAS, alcohol and other drug abuse in this nation has reached epidemic stages, and the 15-24 year old age group is dying at a faster rate than any other age group; and WHEREAS, it is imperative that visible, unified prevention education efforts by community members be launched to reduce the demand for drugs; and � WHEREAS, the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth, Parents Communication Network and the Chemical Health Commission are sponsoring the National Red Ribbon Campaign offering .citizens the opportunity to demanstrate their commitment to the decrease _ - in the� d�mand for__drugs.. - _ _ . _ _ - _ __ _ _ _ _ WIiEREAS, the National Red ribbon Campaign will be celebrated in every community in America during "Red Ribbon Week" , October 22-28 , 1990; and WFIEREAS, President George Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush are the National Honorary Chairpersons, and Governor Perpich (Minnesota) is the State Honorary Chairperson to provide this community focus on a "Drug Free America" ; and WHEREAS, business, government, law enforcement, schools, religious institutions, service organizations, youth, physicians, senior citizens, military, sports teams, and individuals will demonstrate their commitment to drug - free youth and responsible adult use by wearing and displaying red ribbons during this weekend campaign; and WFIEREAS, the community of Rosemaunt further commits its resources to ensure the success of the Red Ribbon Campaign; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESf3LVED that the City Council of the City of Rosemount, does hereby support October 22-28, 1990, as Red Ribbon Week and encourages its citizens to participate in drug prevention education, activities, making a visible statement that we are strongly committed to a community that demands the decrease in chemical abuse.
