Subject: Computer RFP
Be advised that on June 6, 19�i9 at 2:00 o'cic�ck p.m. , we
opened bids for the furnishing c�f computer ec�uiprnent and
related software.
Having had time now to review and digest what was in those
RFP's the Finance Department Staff wishes to present the
following recommendation.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council accept the bids as presented and reject
a11 bids, because of budgetary constraints. The hardware �
costs reflected in the bids is greater than expected when
budgeting.
RATIONALE
Review of the bids shows conclusively that we did not budget
enough money to approach the aequisition in the manner we
expected to. It is quite evident that the Name Brand
equipment being proposed in the bids is priced beyond our
expectations as revealed by the budget problem we are
experiencing.
FURTHER RECOMMENDATION
Direct that staff investigate the purchase of equipment to
configure a system to provide service to Finance and
Community Deuelopment as outlined in their needs. We have
information now that indicates that we could purchase
programs that run on MS DOS that would completely emulate
what we are doing with the current software, or two of the
software vendors have indicated that their programs will run
on any 386 or better equipment. The praposal that has IBM
equipment bid must have IBM equipment as that is the only
operating environment that their software will run in, and
return to the Council in the very near future with the
information needed to go forward again and stay within the
budget guidelines.
