Authorize Purchase of Snow�low & Win� for 1-Ton Truck
This item consist of requesting the use of some additional C.I.P. monies to
purchase a snowplow and wing for the 1-ton dump truck that we bought earlier this
year. This memo provides some background as to the necessity for reques�ing
additional monies and recommended action for Council to take.
We budgeted $22,000 to purchase a 1-ton dump truck with pXow in the 1989 C.I.P.
However, a couple of things changed after the G.I.P. was set. We had originally
budgeted for a regular rear wheel drive gasoline powered I-ton truck with a front
snowplow. However, upon greatez reflection we felt that in order to make the
best use of the 1-ton truek we should have a wi.ng attached to it. This would
allow us to plow up to 16 feet. We would be able to plow parking lots twice as
fast as we could befare with the regular 8 foot snowplow on a pi,ckup. Also, we
decided that this piece of equipment would be ideal for touching up cul-de-sacs '
because of its maneuverability, By adding the wing to the truek we felt it woul�
be best to go to a diesel engine and upgrade frbm 2-wheel to 4-wheel drive. 0ur
Park Foreman also had concerns that a 4-wh�el drive would be necessary to
maneuver same of the hills we have in our park system with a full load. The
addition of the d�.esel engine and 4-wheel drive added about $2,000 to the price
of the truck. As you can see by the attached quotes the wing adds about another -
54,000. Adding another $6,000 to our estimated cost wauld bring us very close to
what we paid for this unit. ;,',

Although we would exceed aur budget amount for the dump truck with plow we would
propose using exeess C,I.P. funds to purchase the snowplow and wing. Recently '�'
Council approved expenditure of some excess G.I.P. fundin for a ���
g portable hoist.
At that time we had about $20,000 in excess C.I.P, funt�ing because we did not �;j
replace the ro�aS�aE mower or buy crack filler equipment. With ttie $6,3Q0 ;I�
expenditure for the hoist it leaves us with about $i3,000 left in excess C.I.P.
funding. We would propose the $5,732 for the snowplow and wing be taken from �

Recommended action for Gouncil to take would be to approve the expenditure of the �r
$5,732 of excess C,I.P. monies to purchase a snowplow and wing from Crysteel
Truck Equipment.
