ITEM # A , • ***********************r*********ZtEttOr***t*r************************** DATE: MAY 11, 1989 , TO: MAYOR & COUNCILM$MBERS C/0 ADr1INISTRATOR JILK FROM: CITY ENGINEER/PUBLIC WQRKS DIRECTOR HEFTI ,- RE: ITEMS FOR THE MAY 16, 1989 COUNGIL PtEETING DEPARTMENT HEAD BUSINESS ` Letter Requesting Txaffic Study by County at Shannon Parkwa and County Road 42 and Diamond Path and Connemara Trail f This item consist of requesting the County to perform a traffic study at the intersections of Diamond Path - Connemara Trail (140th Street) and Shannon iParkway - County Road 42. The develapment in the Gountry Hi31s Addition has added a great deal of traffic to Connemara Trail. We anticipate even more traffic with the addition of the new elementary school and the completion of Shannon Parkway. Because Diamond Fath and County Road 4Z are County roads, I contacted Pete Sorenson, Gounty Traffic Engineer, as to what policy' is required + for these signals. He told me to draft a letter to rir. Everds, the County Highway Engineer, requesting a study he done on the two above intersections and that they will be considered in future highway budgets. This letter will get the process started. ; Estimated cost to the City for these projects would be between $50,OOp-$80,000. As per County policy, on the Diamond Path-Connemara Trail signal, we would be responsible for one leg of the intersection, Apple Valley for the other leg af the intersection, and Dakota County for the Diamond Path Iegs of the intersection. For the County Road 42-5hannon Parkway intersection we would be responsible for 50 of total cost. Because Connemara Trail & Shannon Parkway are designated as municipal state aid streets we can use riSA funding for our share of the traf£ic .signals. ` _, Their is no action required of Council at this time. ,, i • j . , . , , i . i , ! ; , i , •
