The Fire Department is preparing the vehicles Por their grass fire rigs at this moment. There was one small glitch in the pickups. The bidder made a mistake when he ordered the pickups and ordered them with a 351 V-8 instead of a 4b0 V-8 as we speeified. However, because the trucks met the speGifications in every other aspect, I negotiated with the bidder to provide two heavy duty step bumpers at no eost to the City in exchange for accepting the 351 engines. The Fire Department felt that the 351 engine would be adequate for their needs but were concerned that when they turn them over to the Fublic Works Department that they may not be big enough. We test drove the pickups and our mechanic indicates because they are fuel injected that the 351 should give us plenty of horsepower for our needs. The reason that I negotiated a settlement with the bidder was because the only other bidder was from Chevrolet and they did 'not meet specifications in several areas. For example, the Chevrolet could not meet the suspension requirements of the specifications. The bidder also made a mistake on his paperwork when he invoiced us for the vehicles. Purchase order for Councils approval under the Cansent Agenda is for $3Q,110. This is a result of a typo on the bidders bill and should have been the bid amount, $31,440. I made out anothez purchase order in the amount of the difference, $1,330. This will be processed shortly.
