Receive Bids/Award Contract, Public Works Garage South Bay Remodeling
On July 14, 1989 at 10:00 a.m. Staff received bids for the remodeiing work of the
south bay. As Council recalls this work consisted of making the`south bay into a
lunch room with three offices and two new bathrooms. The apparent low bidder is
Met-Con Metro Gonstruction at $52,900. As you can see our architects estimate
was $45,000. We have $40,000 left over in excess funding because we did not go
ahead with the Fire Station stucco project in 1988. In addition I have budgeted
$11,500 for construction of Foreman offices only in the south bay in the 1989
budget. Therefore we would have a total of $51,500 to work with. I also had
$10,00Q budgeted for painting the Public Works Garage. A portion of this
remodeling would require painting the front of the south four bays because we
will be blocking in the south bay garage door and it would be very difficult to
match the paint on new block to the existing surface. We couTd repaint to where
the building connects to the north four bays to form an L-shape, which would be a
logical place to paint to. Any mismatch would be more difficult to notice at
that point. ` We could probably continue with painting the front of the building
and what would be left over could be used to supplement the $1,GOO short-fall
from the bid price to the amount of funds available.
Recommended action for Council to consider is to receive the bids and award the
contract for the Public Works Garage South Bay Remodeling to the iowest
responsible bidder and authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to sign the contract
documents.
