RE: Red Ribbon Campaign
The Red Ribbon Campaign was what would tierm, a minor success.
Through the effarts oE the Jaycees, city staff and a acal
business, we wee able to distribute red ribbons , bows and
buttons to aIl city staff, city vehicles, all publie schools in
Rosemount and Diamond Path Elementary in Apple Valley, three
loeal businesses and deeorate the street light posts in downtown
Rosemount.
I believe the effort really paid aff in "making the community
aware" of the concern over drug and aleohal abuse, especial.ly
with the young people.
We were unable to lacate banners because suppliers were all out.
The total cost for the effot was less than $275.Q0 and the
Rosemount Jaycees wiil be picking up half of that cost.
Overal,l, we feel that there should have been hetter coordination
with schools, churches and other agencies in Dakata County and we
hope that next yar a lead agency for coordination will be
designated, Additianal "awareness" weeks will be occurring this
year sponsored by MADD and next year another nationwide campaign
is scheduled.
I would reeommend that you give staff direction to coninue to
manitor sueh prograrns and prepare recommendations on
opportunities for city invalvemen.
