W. +Q A ROSEMOUNT, MINNESOTA 5568 JG"fn 612-423-4411 December 1 , 1989 ITEM 6. a. T0: Mayor Hoke ' Councilmembers : Napper Oxborough Walsh Wippermann FROM: Stephan Jilk, Administrator/Clerk _ RE: Armory Cammittee UpdatejFunding Request The Armory Committee has been woxking for several monttis ta put together a listing of poential uses and corresponding facility components for the armorycommunity project. The Committee has tnured several cities to see their armories and/or community facilities. The committee has listened to representatives of ather cities who have built community faci.lities such as theaters, ice arenas, banquet facilities either, in conjunction with the building of an armory , or separately. , The committee also met twice with representatives of the Guard, once to kick off our work program to discuss overall planning and how the armory program works and once to discuss arehitectural - design and construction options. At this juncture the eommittee would like to put some numbers to the items on the list of potential faeility options. In order to do this with some credibility we will be asking authorization to spend funds out of the armory fund, fo have an architeet take aur list of facility options and give us some general ideas of the cost we would be looking to build those items. This work would not entail the production of detailed lists of building components and cast factors but a "ballpark" range of cost for each optian. It would take an experienced architecturai firm only a few hours to accomplish this. 1 "` ' ' Armory Update Memo to Couneil December 1, 1989 The purpose o€ doing this is to give to the committee some realistic costs associated with each item they are considering so that the committee can consider eaeh item as to its relative cost and assaciate its costs to the affect it will have 'on the community in regazds to tax 1evy. One of the major concerns the city wi11 have is paying far any and all of this project. The committee is well aware of the potential this project has for improving the life of the Rosemount community but also is sensitive as to how important it wi1.1 be to make this a project the whole community can enjoy and i support. T have discussed this with David Kroos, of Boarman and Associa;tes . They are the firm claing the Space Needs Study for ;. • us. David wiI liave a cost estimate for the work to us on Monday • : '; and the Armary Committee will review and make a reeommetdation to ' you on Tuesday. I expect the cost will be no more than a $10Q0. I will be asking for your approval `,for this expenditure and will have the exact amount. lj , ; , , 2
