RE: Red Ribbon Campaign
(Drug Free/Chemical Abuse Campaign)
Attached find a letter from Commissioner Steve Loeding regarding the
upcoming Red Ribbon Campaign. This is a national campaign with
cooperation and involvement on a local level.
The purpose of the campaign is to show support, through the wearing of
red ribbons, buttons and displaying of banners, for a drug free
societp and the awareness of the drug and chemical abuse problems our
society faces. The red bows and ribbons, banners and buttons are all
meant to displap the awareness and support `for the national campaign.
Some cities are putting on teen `dances, ' asking speakers to attend citp
staff brown bag lunches, etc. -
I have contacted the school district to see if they would be
interested in being involved in a Rosemount City/Sehools Froect. Dr.
Dewep, principal of Rosemount High School will be getting ' back to me -
in that regard.
Just to 'give pou an idea of costs to buy the red ribbons, buttons and
banners we could be looking at:
1 . Just City — Emplopee buttons & bows
3 banners: 1 for city hall, 2 for Hwy 3
Bows for citp vehicles
200 bows available at front desk for public
Total Cost $225
2. Schools/City — Provide all students with bows
Provide a11 teachers with buttons
Provide banners for a11 public schools in
city
Provide banner for city hall & 2 for Hwy 3
Provide 200 bows for public
Total Cost $1 ,025
I would suggest the school district share in the cost and the city
seek out some business sponsors to assist in the proect. I will have
this back on the agenda for October 17 for agproval of some nature.
At this time pour approval to continue to put together some program is
requssted.

Dear Mr. Jilk:
This letter is to encourage you to participate in Red Ribbon
Campaign Weekend, October 27-29. This is a national campaign
offering citizens the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment
to the decrease in the demand for drugs by wearing and displaying
red ribbons.
The Dakota County Board of Commissioners has adapted a resolution
supporting the campaign and encouraging school, cities and citizens
to participate in drug prevention education activities by making a
visible statement that we are strongly committed to a community
that demands a decrease in chemical abuse.
