According to Motorola, life expectancy af a pager is five ta six years . For that reason, we attempt to replace approximately seven or eight pagers each year. Last year with a transfer of funds trom the CIP, we were able to purchase twice that many pagers , allowing us to catch up from fallzng behind in previous years . This year we again have mvney budgeted fcr appraximately sevet pagers. With donations frorn the Jaycees, the Legi4n, and the KCs that have not been expended for othez purposes , we are in a position to again purchase twice as many pagers -or fifteen, Due to budget constraints that we will feel in 1990, alang with state mandated updates of our self-contained breathing apparatus , we feel that it is advantageous ta make these pager purchases at this time thus freeing p monies in 1990. We have been working with the Motorola representative during he year. At this time he indicates that at the end of Sptember, early October, there will agaa.n be a ,promotion on the same as which we took advantage of last year. We will be able to purchase a pager, battery, charger, and extended five year warranty for $394.00 each. This is only a $10.Q0 increase over last year' s promotional price. We therefore ask far authorization to purchase fifteen pagers at $394.OQ for a total of $5,91Q.00 and also one additional eharger at $50.Q0 bringing the total exAenditure to $5,96Q.00. Because a portion of this purchase is covered by donations from outside organizations, it may appear as a budget overrun at year's end. Monies have been received, however, ta offset this perceived overrun. We plan to hald off as long as possible in cur ordering cf the pagers in case we have some unanticipated expendi.tures. At that time we wauld adjust our purchases downward to compensate for any expenditures of that nature. Thank you for your consideratiot in this matter, aW
