RE: Fire Department - Tanker Truck Bid R ommendation
The bids were open for the new tank and associated equipment to
retrofit the tanker truck. These bids were open Monday, the 11th
of January, at 2:00 p.m.
Three bids were received but only two of these by the 2;00 p.m.
deadline. The two that were received on time and opened were:
(1) Clarey's Safety Equipment, Rochester, MN
Alternate A (Stainless Steel) $27,135
Alternate B (Cold Rolled Steel) No Bid.
(2) Brownie Tank Mfg.
Alternate A (Stainless Steel) $26,534
Alternate B (Cold Rolled Steel) $20,835.
The third bid, from Engle Fabrication, Inc. of Sauk Center, MN
was not opened as it was picked up in our afternoon mail and not
received by me until 2:22 p.m.
The Fire Department Truck Committee reviewed the bids, and the
fire department members as a whole discussed the bids The
department recommends the following action be taken:
(1) Reject all bids opened because:
(a) The budget for this project was $21,000 based on
estimates by these same companies.
(b) The Clarey bid did not totally meet specifications.
(c) The bid format should be clarified to insure that the
company supplies enough information as to work to
complete.
(2) Readvertise the project with bids to be received February 5,
at 3:00 p.m. and to be considered by the City Council on
February 16 at the regular Council meeting.
Further discussion on this will be presented at the Council
meeting by Chief Turek.
