Approve Water & Sewer Connection Charge Increases9 41-1-, h - DATE: FEBRUARY 9, 1988 TO: MAYOR & COUNCILMEMBERS C/O ADMINISTRATOR JILK FROM: CITY ENGINEER/PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR HEFTI, RE: ITEMS FOR THE FEBRUARY 16, 1988 COUNCIL MEETING NEW BUSINESS ADDrove Water and Sewer Connection Charge Increases The Utility Commission, at their February 8, 1988, approved increasing the water and sanitary sewer connection charges to reflect the cost increases since the rates were last increased in 1982. For Councils information, I am attaching a copy of the memo which explains the rational for the increases. As you can see from the memo, the Utility Commission is recommending an increase of $166.00 to the water and sanitary sewer connection charges. With this recommended increase the connection charges for 1988 would be $909.00 for both water and sanitary sewer. This amounts to an increase of 22% from the $743.00 figure used in the past. Staff estimates that the City would receive an additional $42,000.00 in single family connection charges alone. Because the connection charges have not been adjusted to reflect annual cost increases from 1982 to the present, and the fact the Utility Commission is recommending increasing these connection charges, Staff recommends that Council approves the 1988 Sanitary Sewer and Water Charges to be set at $909.00 and that the City review these rates annually.
