Proclamation of National Public Works Week• DATE: APRIL 28, 1988 TO: MAYOR & COUNCILMEMBERS C/O ADMINISTRATOR JILK FROM: CITY ENGINEER/PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR HEFT 1, RE: ITEMS FOR THE MAY 3, 1988 COUNCIL MEETING Proclamation of National Public Works Week "Building for the Future" is the slogan for the National Public Works Week this year. The goal of the National Public Works Week is to inform and educate the Public regarding public works. In order to heighten peoples awareness of public works, I am asking the Mayor to proclaim the week of May 15 through the 21st as National Public Works Week so that we may recognize all our Public Works people whose responsibility it is to manage, operate and maintain our water, sewer, street and park systems. In addition to the proclamation, I intend on putting out a short press release regarding our public works. I would also like to get a picture of the entire maintenance crew to be placed in the paper. I would invite the Mayor and Council to participate in this picture which I would arrange to have taken Thursday, May 5th or Friday, May 6th. I would be glad to entertain a time that would be convenient for Council. I am attaching an organizational chart and charts of the street mileage, water demand and sewer and water connection from the past seven years for Councils information. As you can see, we have been steadily increasing in all areas with the future holding promise for more increases due to our high potential for continued growth. On behalf of the entire Public Works Department, I want to thank the Council for their support in the past and continued support in the future as we are entering into a relatively tricky time period where we will be both constructing new infrastructure and replacing and upgrading old infrastructure.
