Award Contract for Tractor/Loader/Backhoe Replacement
On April 19,1988 Staff opened bids for replacement of the Citys' 1974 John Deere
Model 401C Tractor/Loader/Backhoe. The City received two bids, one being from
Carlson Tractor and Equipment for a Ford Model 555B and Carlson Lake State
Equipment for a John Deere Model 310C. In order to allow more time to deck the
equipment bid against the specifications, Council continued this item until the
May 17, 1988 meeting.
Upon reviewing the specifications and bid proposals for both vendors, Staff is
reccimmeriding that Council award the bid to Carlson Tractor & Equipment for the
Ford Model 555B Tractor/Loader/Backhoe because the John Deere Model 310C does not
meet all specifications. The specifications that the John Deere 3100 does not
meet are as follows:
1. Loader breakout force
2. Loader lift capacity
3. 45 degree loader dump angle
4. Front axle rated low load opacity (SAE)
5. Pressurized Cab
6. Rear Tire Size
7. Manufacturers Warranty
Therefore our Staff is recommending that Council award the bid for the
tractor/loader/backhoe to Carlson Tractor & Equipment Company for the
tractor/loader/backhoe including all the options for a total contract price of
$46,257,
Option A vns for the frost bucket and ditch clean-up and grading bucket along
with the necessary quick coupler attachments. Option B was for the hydraulic
compactor and necessary quick coupler attachment. Option C was for the Teledyne
hydraulic jackhammer and quick coupler attachment. Finally, Option D was for the
necessary hydraulic hoses and couplers to run from the tractor to the hydraulic
attachments.
The vendor is indicating a delivery date for the tractor/loader/backhoe and the
related options around June 1, 1988. For Councils information we budgeted
$65,000 in the 1988 C.I.P. for replacing this item.

Carlson Equipt bid an alternate, Stanley BR67, for Option B at $2,450.00.
Carlson also bid an Option D for a Hydraulic Kit for operation of the hydraulic
