RE: ITEMS FOR MAY 17, 1988 CDWCIL MEETING Fire Station Stucco Project, Approve Plans & Specs/Authorize Ad for Bid s,, Contract 1988-3 In the 19€38 budget we set aside $40,000 to perform some exterior modifications for the fire hall. The existing building was constructed out of a very porous concrete block material with a very rough facing. The rough facing made it very difficult for the block layers to strike off the grout between the block which resulted in cracks between the block that occurred over time. The cracks and porosity of the concrete blocks have created several problems over the past regarding excessive moisture. The cold air infiltrates the block and when it canes up against the warm moist air inside the building it condenses on the inside of the building and is disintegrating the interior paint and interior block. In researching this last year the recommendation that Staff came up with was to place a stucco type finish over insulation board around the exterior of the building. This will increase the insulation capacity of the building and also reduce the moisture and air inflow problems that we are currently experiencing. Tb assist us in this project I have enlisted the services of an architect, Milt Bruflodt, to prepare the necessary specifications and working drawings. These are at a point now where we would like to have Council approve the plans and specifications and authorize advertisement for bids so that we may construct this project this summer. Milt will be available to answer any questions Council may have regarding this proposed project. The cost estimate for this project is $40,000. The action for Council to consider is to approve the plans and specifications and authorize advertisement for bid opening for City Contract 1988-3, Fire Station Stucco Project, on Thursday, June 16, 1988 at 10:30 a.m. cc: Milt Bruflodt, Architect:.
