HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.a. Jaycee Park NamingTO: Steve Jilk - City Administrator FROM: David J. Bechtold - Director of Parks & Recreation DATE: June 3, 1988 Subject: Naming of Park For the past several years the Rosemount Jaycees have been active in park projects in our city. Most of their projects' were completed during the Park Improvement Day that was organized each year. They have contacted the Parks & Recreation Committee to work even closer with the city on parks. This past year the Jaycee organization has been involved in the "pull tab" program of the State of Minnesota. The sponsoring establishment for them is the Shenanigans bar of Rosemount. "Adopt a Park" was a concept that I presented to the Parks and Recreation Committee some time ago. It requests citizens, either individually or through groups, to become more active in our parks and open space programs. The Jaycees have followed through on this concept. I have met with them at their meetings and they have sent representatives to our Committee meetings. John Howard is the liaison of their organization to the Parks & Recreation Committee. The Jaycees have proposed to make contributions from the "pull tabs" to the parks program of Rosemount. In return they have requested that a park or a portion of a park be established with their organizational name as the name of the park area. A check was received from the Jaycee organization in the amount of $28,500.00.. The Parks & Recreation Committee made and passed a motion to request the City Council to name the park planned for the Westridge and Wensmann additions "Rosemount Jaycee Community Park Annual donations will be given to be added to city funds already being budgeted for this park area. The "adoption concept in this case is to accelerate the development of the park with the combining of city and Jaycee funding. I am requesting that the City Council consider a motion to name the park area in the Westridge and Wensmann additions "Rosemount Jaycee Community Park".
