AUGUST 12, 1988
AUGUST 16, 1988 AGENDA ITEMS
4d. Hearing Date - Zoning Ordinance Amendment
In light of perpetual requests for metal buildings in the city, we are recommending
immediate consideration of new standards that would be added to the existing
Zoning Ordinance. These standards cover all zoning districts and remove the
subjectivity in our interpretation of existing ordinance language. At this time we
request only that the hearing date be set for formal consideration at the September
20 Regular Meeting. The Planning Commission has made a preliminary
recommendation for approval and the city attorney is reviewing the proposal at the
present time. A final copy of the amendment will be forwarded to the City Council
very shortly. We also intend to introduce these standards to the business
community at the September 13, 1988 business forum.
4e. Hearing Date-- Subdivision Qrdinance
We are also requesting consideration of a slight modification to the "Park
Dedication Formula" that was approved earlier this year. This amendment does not
change the intent of the formula or its basic provision; rather, it provides better
clarification of the specific developments that trigger or require the dedication.
This hearing is also proposed to be held on September 20th. Copies of the
amendment will be distributed prior to the public hearing.
7c. APA Regional Planning!Conference
For the first time, the Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association is
hosting the Four State (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa) Regional Planning
Conference. Copies of the conference announcement have been included in Planning
Commission and City Council packets. The conference will be held September 14-17
at the Minneapolis Downtown Holiday Inn.
I am very much involved in this event, serving as the conference coordinator. It
promises to be enlightening and enjoyable for the professional and lay person. An
all day pre -conference workshop on site plan design, interpretation and evaluation
techniques will be held on Wednesday. The main conference on Thursday and
Friday includes 22 different sessions with topics ranging from visionary
planning/idealism/creativity to innovative projects/ development strategies to highway
corridor management and stress management.
I would like to request authorization for attendance to this conference for planning
staff, Planning Commission members and City Council members.
