RE: Appointment of Election Judges
Gentlemen:
State law requires that Council adopt a resolution appointing election
judges for the primary election on September 13 and the general
election on November 8. Therefore, the attached resolution is for your
consideration under the consent calendar of the August 16 Council
agenda.
For your information, most of our election judges have worked elections
for several years and very seldom resign except for personal reasons
such as illness, illness in their family, employment, etc. This year
we have six new judges.
Also for your information, state law requires that all judges attend a
training session prior to the election date. Our training session is
scheduled for August 31. An alternate training date will be some time
during the first week in September. This year's training session will
be a little more intensive because of the new optical scan system. I
plan on having the captains and co -captains come in on the morning of
August 31 for a more thorough and individual training of the new
equipment, take them to lunch at Kady's and return for the full
training session with all the judges in the afternoon. 'Phe city 11as
purchased a 30 minute video which will assist me in the training of the
new equipment. During this training session, a brief review of the
election laws is conducted.
If you have any questions regarding the upcoming elections or the new
OPTECH-III equipment, please feel free to contact me.
