RE: National League of Cities Conference
Boston, Mass. - December 3-7, 1988
In your packets for the August 2 meeting you received the
preliminary information bulletin for the 1988 League of Cities
Conference to be held in Boston in December. It looks like an
exciting conference with potential for us to enjoy education and
information exchange at a national level.
I would recommend that you consider attendance. Councilmember
Walsh and I attended the 1987 conference and found it to be
worthwhile. It was attended by many of our neighboring community
officials.
I also plan on attendin% with your consideration this year's
conference, and.my budget reflects the cost of attendance.
I am placing this on the agenda at this time so that if anyone
wishes to attend, early reservations can be obtained.
Your consideration to approve my attendance and any
councilmember's attendance is appreciated.

A Planning Conference That
Focuses on Unconventional Ideas
This year's Upper Midwest Regional Planning
Conference promises to challenge traditional
modes of thinking and to present ideas
which will stimulate your mind.
Featured speaker, Michael Brooks, AICP,
will challenge conferees with his call for
a return to idealism in planning, a topic
he recently addressed in an article in the
APA Jaum8l. Brooks urges a restoration
of the visionary/reformist spirit that once
fueled the profession.
Another speaker, futurist U Rauk Broberg,
will present her thoughts on why the future
