RE: Computer Equipment Purchasing
As part of the budget for 1988 several items were planned for purchase in the
area of computer hardware and software. Some of these purchases have been
approved and made already. Two others, not initially budgeted for; i.e. Fire
Department and Building Permit System, were approved and have been purchased.
To complete our data processing equipment purchases for 1988 we recommend the
following equipment be approved:
1. System 1 - To provide a system on which word processing and graphics be
accomplished in the work area for the administrative secretary position
Linda Jentink has filled. Work on newsletters and graphic presentation
material require some items specific to this system.
COST: $2325.50
PC XT
ITEMS: 30 Meg Hard Drive
1 Meg Ram
360 Floppy
3-1/2" Floppy
Color
Graphics
I/O Card
Logitech Mouse
Color Monitor
Keyboard Upgrade - 101
Brother Twin Writer 6
Surge Protector
2. System 2 - To provide word processing, data base and graphics output
capabilities to Police Department office.
COST: $2325.50
PC XT
ITEMS: 30 Meg Hard Drive
640 K Ram
1.2 Floppy
3-1/2" Floppy

Amber_ Monitor
Keyboard Upgrade - 101
Brother Twin Writer 6
Keyboard Drawer Plus -

3. System 3 - The third system will provide myself with computer
capability for use of word processing, data base and spreadsheet
software. I had a system at one point but give that up to engineering
because their need was greater than mine at the time and our budget, at
the time, was such that we were unable to replace it.
Memo to Council 2
Computer Equipment Purchasing
August 12, 1988
The system proposed is a rxar_tahl.e systcam. We are opting for that style
for three reasons. First of all the physical size of this system will
allow for a lot less space requirement in my office; secondly, we hope
to utilize it for a
of system" whereby training tapes for use on
VCR machines and software programs for use on this machine can be used
by employees to "self train" on different software packages we use
here. This will save, extensively, on training costs to go "outside"
for seminars and classes. The portability feature will allow us to
simply unplug and go to a VCR -TV site to be utilized.
Another portability issue is the fact that we want access, through a
telephone modem hookup torstate, county and national data bases which
provide information services at a minimal cost if we have the proper
equipment. By having a portable unit, such as this, with a modem
hookup which we had installed during our last furniture move, we will
have that capability.
Without dedicating a separate unit, at this point, for the information
service and training needs we will have the capability.
COST: $2085.00 TOSHIBA MULTISPEED 1101+
ITEMS: Laptop XT IBM Compatible
640K
Twin 3-1/2 Drives
I/O Card
Internal Modem
Battery Charger/Power Supply
Additional Items:
4. Two additional printers are required.
A. OKIDATA 321, Tractor Pull and Cable — COST: $614.50
This will be used by the system in the engineering tech area and
will be replacing a smaller, more compact unit being used now and
which will be used in the administrators office system.
B. OKIDATA 321, Tractor Pull and Cable - COST: $614.50
This printer will be used to provide printer capability to the
Building Permit System already purchased. Until the software was
installed and preliminary output was given and the printer needs
were established we hesitated to proceed with a specific printer
purchase.
