TO; Mayor, Council, City Administrator FROM: Dean Johnson, I)irector of Community I?evlopment DAfiE: October i4, 1988 SUBJ: Zoning Ordinance Amendments At the September 2Q, 1988 Regular Meeting, ihc City (:ouncil agreecl ' to table any discussion or action on pro}csed zoning amendrnents, until the hearing notice was republished with the prcposed changes included in the text. Originally, we felt we wuld reschedule the hearing for October 18 r November L Since that time staf€ has haci the opportu»ily to discuss the amendments in greater detail tvith a few ecuncil members. We feit most of the suggestions for change were quite good; however, some of these represented potentiai conflicts with. existing ordinanees cr plans and required a more tharough evaluation. I feel it is also necessary to take the time to advise/inform the Planning Commissican of the poEential changes, which may lead to eaen further considerations. Finally, we have held our first "Business rum," (}ctober i l, 1988 which was primarily a presentation by (;ommunity Development staif on the guide plan, znning ordinance and building ccde regulatory purpose and process. There was overwhelming interest by those present to formally particiatc in the review f the rtoposei zoning ordinance, We agreed and suggested that the C:hamber cf Commerce establish a committee to formally reuiew the ordinance. The long and short c[ lhis memc is that ve cannct rccommenc khat we proceed with tMe hearing cn the propcsed .imendments at this time, based upon the above consicleralins. It nav even be most' appropriale to consider these changes as part of the overall zning ordinance revietiv. Plcase let me know about any cencerns or comments you may havc.
