Ethics and Public Leadership
Friday, January 30, 1987
9:00 a.m.4:31 p.m.
Sponsored by Government liainhig Service
Ethics are an inherent. part of public policy.,As issues
become more complex, the ethical questions may be mote
difficult to recognize and/or resolve.
This workshop offers the city official an exceptional
opportunity to
• Exploxe the multiple perspectives and situational fetors
involved in developing public policy
• Identify and apply ethical perspectives to real-life city
situations
• increase awareness of the factors, involved in individual
and organizational moral decisions
• Clarify one's own ethical framework
•)nhance one's courage to act ethically in private and `
public life
Format includes short presentations, small :"group
discussions, specially designed exercises. This workshop is
a much -condensed version of the Ethics in Public P•ticy
Seminar offered to selected applicants at the Humphrey
Institute. Materials/case studies have been adapted to focus
specifically on city situations. Note: Although conflict of
interest presents ethical considerations, this workshop will
be much broader in scope than strict .legalities and is
therefore an excellent complement to the legal discussion
of that topic included in the Conference for Newly Elected+
Officials that will take place the following day.
Fee
Registration fee of $75 includes tuition, lunch, breaks and
materials.
