RE: ERICKSON PARK IRRIGATION BID OPENING, CITY CONTRACT 1987-3
On Thursday, May 14, 1987 at 2:00 p.m. I opened bids for the above referenced
project. Attached is a bid tab and as you can see we received only, one bid.
The bid amount as shown,is slightly more than we had budgeted in the 1987 C.I.P.,
that being $32,000.00. The bid breakdown amounts to about $30,000.00 for the
irrigation system and the remaining portion for the tile system necessary to
drain the infields of the softball fields.
I discussed the bid package with Park Director Bechtold and we would recommend
awarding the base bid of $34,808.00 to Albrecht Irrigation Company. We do not
believe the base bid amount is out of line because it cost the City $22,125.00 to
install the irrigation system for just 3 softball fields last year. Because of
some problems with the equipment installed under last years project, we are
specifying a higher grade of sprinkler head and automatic controller than was
installed in 1986. Also, the base bid system is sized to handle possible future
irrigation of the firehall area and areas between fields 4 & 5 and the soccer
field. The better equipment and oversizing contributes to the increase in cost
over last years project.
However, we do not recommend awarding the alternate bid. This was included to
see if we could afford it if the bid prices were cheap enough.
Also, I understand that Burnsville had a bid opening 2 weeks ago for an
irrigation system amounting to $18,000.00 and received only one (1) bid.
I will be available to answer questions regarding this matter at the May 19, 1987
Council meeting.
