RE: ITEMS FOR JULY 7, 1987 COUNCIL MEETING
OLD BUSINESS
5a. Approve Change Order No. 1/Erickson Park Irrigation System
In order to improve the irrigation coverage over the infield portion of
the softball fields, staff met with the contractor and came up with the
solution being to replace the proposed quick couplers along the first
and third base fences with regular Toro 640 irrigation heads and also
place two new 640 heads placed in the outfield. These will be tied into
the control panel for either automatic or manual operation. We are
proposing to leave the quick coupler behind the pitchers mound. This
will provide the necessary coverage at an even rate over the infield.
The additional cost is $900.00 per field or $1800.00, but staff
estimates it will save at least one man hour per day (includes both
fields). This is an estimated labor savings of about $700 - $900
depending upon the maintenance level worker performing the watering.
The reason this was not included in the original plan was because staff
felt that by relocating the quick couplers along the third baselines
would adequately handle the coverage for the infield. While this may
have accomplished that, staff later found that it would not provide an
even coverage over the infield. 'therefore, I would recommend that
council approve Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $1800.00 for the
modification of the infield portion of the irrigation system for fields
#4 and #5. Attached on the page blank is a copy of the Change Order
for Council's information.
