HomeMy WebLinkAbout8.f. Approve Sanitary Sewer Rate Increase for 19880 2ieni I -F. DATE: NOVEMBER 13, 1987 TO: MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL C/O ADMINISTRATOR JILK FROM: RICH HEFTI, CITY ENGINEER/PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR RE: ITEMS FOR NOVEMBER 17, 1987 COUNCIL MEETING NEW BUSINESS 8f. Approve Sanitary Sewer Rate Increase for 1988 At the last Council meeting, Council approved the 1988 Utilities Budget which consisted of operation and maintenance expenses for our water distribution system and sanitary sewer collection system. At the present water rate of $.95 per thousand gallons we can cover our expenses for the water system. However, at our current sanitary sewer rate of $1.05 per thousand gallons we will experience a shortfall in 1988. Therefore Staff is recommending a rate increase for sanitary sewer of about 10% making the proposed 1988 rate of $1.25 per thousand gallons. The Utilities Commission at its November 9, 1987 meeting approved this rate increase. For the average residential user with a winter quarter use of 16,000 gallons the increase would amount to $3.20 per quarter, or 12.80.per year. The Utilities Commission also approved billing residential customers sewer based on the winter quarter of water usage while maintaining the commercial/industrial rate being based upon actual water usage. I will be happy to discuss this matter in further detail if Council so desires at the November 17, 1987 meeting,
