Commendation for attainment of Eagle Scout rank EXECUTIVE SUMMARY City Council Regular Meeting: July 18, 2017 AGENDA ITEM: Commendation for attainment of Eagle Scout rank AGENDA SECTION: Presentations PREPARED BY: William H. Droste, Mayor AGENDA NO. 3.a. ATTACHMENTS: APPROVED BY: LJM RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation of certificate of commendation Rosemount is fortunate to have a large number of young people who reach what the Boy Scouts of America describes as “a milestone of accomplishment.” The Eagle Scout designation is the highest advancement rank for Boy Scouts. About seven percent of Scouts complete the work to achieve the ranking. It requires progressing through the stages of Scouting beginning with “Tenderfoot,” and performing the work to earn 21 merit badges. Eagle Scouts also must plan, develop, and give leadership to a service project for any religious organization, school, or community. The City Council tonight continues its tradition of honoring these accomplishments by commending a Rosemount student who achieved the Eagle rank. Jonathan Meaden helped St. Joseph’s School by repainting the playground. He added markings for basketball, hopscotch, and foursquare. The most notable feature of the design is a shamrock that is about 20 feet in diameter. Jonathan graduated last month from Rosemount High School and will head soon to St. Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona to major in criminal justice.
