ENVIRONMENTAL & SUSTAINABILITY TASK FORCE
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
August 15, 2017
1. CALL TO ORDER
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof the meeting of the Environmental & Sustainability
Task Force of the City of Rosemount was called to order on August 15, 2017 at 5:33 p.m. in
th
the Conference Room of the City Hall, 2875 145 St West, Rosemount. Attendees included
Taskforce Members: Katie Koch-Laveen, Mark Glende, Rebecca Higgins and Renee
Burman, Karen Malkowski. City of Rosemount Senior Engineer Technician Derick
Anderson, Public Works Director Brian Erickson, and Rosemount Resident Vanessa
Demuth.
2. ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO AGENDA
There were no additions or corrections to the agenda.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Karen Malkowski noted Questions for Woodbury Rep should be Maplewood Rep.
Motion by Koch-Laveen Second by Glende
Ayes: 4
Nays: 0. Motion carried.
4. PRESENTATIONS
Public Works Director Brian Erickson introduced himself.
5. OLD BUSINESS
a. Partners in Energy
Notes from kick-off meeting discussed. Tami is our main contact, there will be 5 workshops
each 2 ½ to 3 hours and held every 4 to 6 weeks. Partners in Energy will work with MN
Energy Resources and Dakota Electric. Discussed Energy Action Team - strip mall owners,
schools. Document started with who from REST will find contact info for potential
members by Friday. These people will receive a letter with the invitation. Wade will be REST
point of contact with Mark and Karen assisting. Discussed preliminary goals for Partners in
Energy - City Buildings, Community Center, and strip mall.
b. Leprechaun Days Review and Thank You
Leprechaun days went well, good engagement during tabling. Lots of people are interested
in rain gardens.
c. iMatter Youth Council - Climate Report Card
Rebecca connected with iMatter. Only need one youth as the Champion. Aimed at high
school aged students. Environmental School in Apple Valley did it previously. Vanessa will
contact the Rosemount High School Green Team to see if they are interested.
d. Snow Plow Policy/Bare Pavement/Smart Salt - winter presentation to council?
Rebecca had presented to City Council, they seemed excited, will follow up
6. NEW BUSINESS
a. 25 by 25 Governor’s Initiative
September 5th at 7 p.m. 4 to 20 people meet for 2 hours to go through questions and upload
answers. Need 1 more facilitator.
b. Prioritization of REST goals activity
Didn’t get to the activity, did discuss in general long list of projects either thought about or
started. Also looked at STAR Cities and GreenStep Cities. GreenStep is free, better known.
Next meeting will do activity, prioritize goals and see how projects might earn points in
GreenStep.
c. Charter Completion
Not covered
