ROSEMOUNT CITY COUNCIL
REGULAR MEETING PROCEEDINGS
SEPTEMBER 19, 2017
6.f. Steeple Center Sidewalk Replacement
Council member Nelson expressed concerns that there was not more than one bid for the project.
He stated he spoke with a contractor who would be willing to provide a quote this week. He also
stated he supported changing to a concrete paver or concrete instead of a clay paver if it saved
money.
Council member Weisensel expressed concerns for the potential of water and icing issues around
the facility and inquired about underground water conveyance. Parks and Recreation Director
Schultz explained the swales that are on the library property and the grading on the north side.
Mayor Droste noted an event over the weekend that would have used one of the areas, so we need
to make sure the area drains correctly.
Council member Freske inquired about the life of concrete compared to the life of pavers. Mr.
Schultz discussed a couple of other paver installations that lasted various amounts of time. Council
member Weisensel stated he believes the life of the two products are similar.
Council member Weisensel inquired about the possibility of adding a patio area instead of just a
sidewalk. Mr. Schultz stated the Arts Council had discussed a mini art park, but the idea never took
off, but staff can examine this as a possibility.
Council members suggested changes to the plan and asked staff to revisit the plan and consider new
bids. No action was taken on the item.
