REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
October 17, 2017
1. CALL TO ORDER
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof the meeting of the Environmental & Sustainability
Task Force of the City of Rosemount was called to order on October 17, 2017 at 5:31 p.m.
in the Conference Room of the City Hall, 2875 145th St West, Rosemount. Attendees
included Taskforce Members: Mark Glende, Rebecca Higgins, Wade Miller, Renee Burman,
and Karen Malkowski. Staff present: City of Rosemount Senior Engineer Technician Derick
Anderson, City of Rosemount Public Works Director Brian Erickson. Others present:
Rosemount Resident Vanessa Demuth.
2. ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO AGENDA
There were no additions or corrections to the agenda.
3. APPROVAL OF SEPTEMBER 19, 2017 MINUTES
Derick Anderson recommended that the minutes be changed in the attendance section to
reflect that Derick Anderson and Brian Erickson are city staff and Vanessa Demuth was a
guest.

Nays: 0. Motion carried.
4. PRESENTATIONS
None.
5. OLD BUSINESS
a. Partners in Energy
Project planning continues during monthly calls with Xcel Energy. Task Force members
have been recruiting stakeholders, including business and community leaders, in the Partners
in Energy Kick-Off Workshop, to be held on October 30 at 2 pm at the Steeple Center. It
was recommended that the City promote the workshop in their online communication
channels (e.g., website, business e-news) to help promote the workshop. Vanessa Demuth
will invite Rosemount City Council members.
b. 25% by 2025 Governor’s Initiative – Burnsville meeting
Vanessa Demuth attended the meeting in Burnsville “25 by 25” meeting to identify solutions
to local water quality issues.
The “25 by 25” goal was launched by Gov. Dayton to engage local governments, businesses,
farmers, scientists, and others in a collaborative effort to to address water quality challenges.
c. Planning for Rosemount’s next Clean Up Day
The Task Force is interested in exploring a partnering at 2018 City Clean-Up Day, the annual
Expo, and Arbor Day to promote handouts on sustainable environmental disposal options,
such as reducing junk mail options, household chemical disposal and electronics recycling.
Renee Burman will reach out to Tom Schuster, Rosemount’s recycling coordinator, on
partnership opportunities.
6. NEW BUSINESS
a. Prioritization of REST goals activity
Staff reviewed the Task Force project prioritization and charter drafted by Rebecca Higgins.
Task Force members voted to approve the completed project prioritization and charter.
Rebeca Higgins will present the completed project prioritization to City Council at the
November Council meeting and/or work session.
Motion by Burman Second by Glende

7. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Rebecca Higgins shared information on cities that are engaging local artists to paint around
storm water inlets to help bring awareness to water pollution. Vanessa Demuth shared that
the city is partnering with Rosemount High School on a clean-up in Rosemount’s Carroll’s
Woods.
Brian Erickson will share Rosemount’s policy on use of salt on streets and roadways during
winter/ice events, including any recommendations from Public Works and Police
Department on salt use based on the current policy.
