Park Improvement Fund Balance as of October 31, 2017: $551,276.98 Inflows to the Park Improvement Fund last month were as follows: Dedication fees—$5,700 Gxants/Other- $0 Intexest- $75.72 Donations -$0 Expenditures - $40,062.39 (Greystone Park Construction) Youth Tennis -The Pa.rks and Recxeation Department xecently completed all Yequirements to become a United States Tennis Association (USTA) Net Generation Community. Net Generation is the youth bxand of the USTA and embxaces all aspects of youth play fox kids ages 5-18.The objective of Net Generation is to have millions of kids connected to the sport. Net Generation is the USTA's commitment to helping community oxganizations (paYks, after-school progxams,community tennis associations,NJTLs, and more),parents, and volunteexs build youth tennis progYams in their communities. Net Generation will pxovide resouxces and guidance along the way to ma.ke sure those offering tennis programming have all of the tools to feel confident in helping kids sta,y active. Net Generation encouxages kids to challenge themselves. It helps shape the game to individual pla,yers, so they can leaxn at their own speed. Even more importandy,it uses tennis as a pathway to personal development off the court. And fox everyone involved,Net Generation creates a strong sense of community for life. Through a variety of progxams, teaching and learning tools,Net Generation is looking to capture the imaginations of kids of all backgrounds and skill levels—bringing together a nationa,l community of paxents, coaches,pla,yers, teachers and volunteers. We are excited to welcome the national Net Generation progxam to Rosemount and utilize the tools in our youth tennis pxograms. Halloween-The 35th Annual Halloween Walk was held on Saturday, Octobex 28,2017. Aftex a very chilly,wet start picking pumpkins on Friday and a cool, damp morning on Saturday, the weathex finally cleaxed up a bit Saturda.y night to have another successful event. Over 2250 people enjoyed the trail, 1121 of them children. Ovex 6801bs. of food was collected for the local food shelf. Manp volunteers were there to help make this event possible. Greystone Park-A Ribbon Cutting was held at Greystone Paxk on Saturday, October 28. It was a cold morning as the mayor, the entixe City Council, staff,and several families from the neighboxhood helped celebxate the gxand opening of the park. Garden Plots -The deadline for gardeners to clean out their garden plots was Sunday, October 22. Since that time the plots gave been further cleaned up and fall tilling has begun. Since it has been so wet lately the soil has been"ripped"in an attempt to get it to dry out adequately so it can be more finely tilled yet this fall. T'he yaxd waste carts at the gaxden sites have been removed foY the season. Fire at Claret Park- On Friday October 27,the Little Free Library at Claret Paxk was lit on fixe and destroyed.That libxary was funded and constructed by neighbors of Claxet Park. Since the vandalism occurred,another neighboY has already contacted our office offering to provide a replacement for that Little Fxee LibYary. Improvements at Disc Golf Course -Last week one of the frequent usexs of the Disc Golf couxse donated his time and enough pavers to construct two new tee pads at the disc golf couxse. The city provided sand,gravel, and some black dirt, and the volunteer built the tee pads for the short tee on both the 3xd and the 6th holes. This brings the numbex of hard surfaced tee pads at the disc couxse to eight. New programs start at the Steeple Center in the month of October: Sunrise Partners: Sunrise Partners is a volunteer opportunity that partners seniors with elementary school students to help with homewoxk,practice math and xeading skills,Yead and share stories,and provide genexal mentorship. The goal of Sunshine Partnexs is to provide an opportunity for intergenerational connections through academic assistance, shared reading and mentoring. In the first month,the progxam had 15 student paxticipants and 6 mentors,with the hopes of gxouring. Woodcarving Club:The Woodcarving Club is a new social group at the Steeple Center,allowing participants to get togethex with others who shaxe a hobby and learn from each other. There is no formal instruction,and paxticipants bring their own tools, supplies, and patterns and some to share if they choose. After just two gatherings, the group has about 15 members with moxe pla.nning to attend in the future.
