Dakota County – Potential Corridors of Commerce Application for Trunk Highway 55.docx EXECUTIVE SUMMARY City Council Meeting: January 16, 2018 AGENDA ITEM: Dakota County – Potential Corridors of Commerce Application for Trunk Highway 55 AGENDA SECTION: New Business PREPARED BY: Brian Erickson, P.E., Director of Public Works/City Engineer AGENDA NO. 9.a. ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: LJM RECOMMENDED ACTION: Discuss potential for City of Rosemount support of a Dakota County Corridors of Commerce application BACKGROUND County Engineer Mark Krebsbach contacted City Engineer Erickson regarding a potential Dakota County Corridors of Commerce application. This application would be for the Trunk Highway 55 corridor from the County State Aid Highway 42 intersection and then to the east. The scope is based on the Highway 52/42/55 Interchange and Highway 55 Regional Corridor Study of May 2002. The corridor is approximately 5 miles with the portion in Rosemount comprising approximately 1 mile or 20% of the project. The project would provide a four lane section through the corridor at an estimated cost of $50 million ($10 million per mile). Based on cost share policy and preliminary estimates the City of Rosemount cost share would be approximately $1.5 million (3% of the total cost). Dakota County is currently seeking input from Rosemount regarding this potential project. Should the county decide to apply it is likely that a letter of support would be requested of the City of Rosemount. SUMMARY Staff is seeking Council direction regarding a potential application by Dakota County for the MnDOT Corridors of Commerce program.
